Social media – BetterNetworker, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and other similar places are ideal for the Network Marketer looking to build their business. Network Marketing is all about building a network, that is building relationships. Social Media is also about building relationships. Think of these sites as online versions of a social club where people are actively trying to find new friends. The big advantage that that they are global, so they will attract people from all over the country and all over the world.

It is important to focus on building relationships on these sites. Don’t immediately join a site and make all your posts about your products and your business opportunity. That is a very quick way to become unpopular. Find people and groups of people who are likely to be interested in your product or business opportunity and then build a relationship with them. Qualify them as prospects, not everyone is suitable, then the product and/or opportunity can be subtly brought to their attention.

A good tactic is to spend time developing your own reputation within the community. Answer questions with helpful advice. Make insightful and valuable posts. Be someone that is knowledgeable about the product area, and respected as a leader in the network marketing industry. When a good reputation is established people will begin to come to you for information, advice and to join the business or buy products.

It is a good idea to have a plan for dealing with these sites, otherwise it’s very possible to waste hours without achieving much. Some things to include in a good strategic plan are: Which sites will be targeted, How often each site will be visited, How long will be spent on each site, Goals for each site and overall.

A good way to build trust and to direct people to your website without pushing it in their face is to have a good profile. When people see someone they find interesting one of the first things they do is visit the profile. Fill as much as possible in the profile, both business and personal. Include interests and other personal tit-bits. A good profile will show a competent business person who is well rounded with interests outside of work. Give people a reason to connect and ice breaking topics to talk about.

It is very important not to spam or be a nuisance. Posts and messages need to be interesting or helpful, they need to provide value. If every post or email is simply about your business opportunity then the only people interested will be those who are already involved. Try to provide direct business information only when asked or when it is clearly relevant to a discussion. It is easy to get a reputation as a spammer or someone who is only interested in their business rather than in contributing to the community.

To back up a good social networking campaign it is helpful to have a useful website that people can visit. This website will be a business one. It is a great idea to have it promoting the business and promoting the person behind the business. Convince people that you will make an excellent sponsor and that they should buy products from you and join the business with you.

The potential for social media – Social media – BetterNetworker, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and similar sites is enormous when used properly. A well thought out campaign will give the savvy network marketer a constant stream of warm prospects ready to buy products and join the business.
